Parts you'll need to upgrade your machine

68040

You'll need to acquire a Motorola 68040 (not an EC or LC, it must be a full 68040) in a PGA package. The specification for this is MC68040RC25B or MC68040RC33B for the 25 and 33 MHz versions respectively. Presumably the 40 MHz version would work, and supposedly people have run their 9000/400 machines at up to 50 MHz.

The cheapest source of 68040s I found was The L2 Company a supplier of Mac parts.

Oscillator

You need to look at the oscillator page to determine which speed oscillator you'll need to buy.

Good places to look are (I've dealt with both companies in the past but have no association with either):

Digikey
Output Enablers (they mainly sell mac acceleration kits, but they have all speeds of oscillators for reasonable prices)

EEPROM

Get a copy of what the EEPROM should contain.
Find a spare EEPROM (don't toast over your only working EEPROM, that's bad). I can't suggest a supplier since I already had a spare.

You'll need to get 27C220, which is a 40 pin DIP chip that's a 2 Mbit EEPROM. Herb says that a 27C1002 might be compatable.

Then, you'll need to put the image file onto the EEPROM using an EEPROM burner. I can't give any good details here, since I had to get a friend to perform this step (besides, it depends heavily on what PROM burner you're using).
